Sunday Supper: 11/14/21
An unexpected bonus of attending Brandi Carlile's tribute to Joni Mitchell's Blue at Carnegie Hall was encountering Jon Batiste in the lobby before the concert. Sensing that he was approachable, I told him how much his music meant to me and WFUV. He was as humble and gracious as you'd hope. After the concert, I ran into him in the street and asked if the concert was as special for him as it was for me. "Oh, yes," he whispered, "Oh, yes, it was." Inspired by that moment - and the concert - this week's "Sunday Supper" will include music by Jon, Brandi, and Joni (from the new Joni Mitchell Archives, Vol. 2).
I'll also spin new music from Jason Isbell, Erin McKeown, Reggie Harris, Tom Prasada-Rao, Corey Harris, Bruce Sudano, and Alisa Amador, plus faves by Gram Parsons, The Jayhawks, Tom Petty, and Sarah Vaughan.
Let "Sunday Supper" brighten these dark afternoons between 5-6 p.m. at 90.7 FM and wfuv.org or anytime in the WFUV Weekend Archives, on the WFUV app, or the illuminating smart speaker of your choice.
