Sunday Supper: 10/20/19

Allison Moorer endured a family tragedy when she and her sister Shelby Lynne witnessed the 1986 murder-suicide of their parents in Alabama. Now she's published an autobiography about her troubled childhood, Blood: A Memoir, along with a companion album, Blood, that's both visceral and beautiful. She'll be doing a signing and performance at the Strand Book Store on October 29, and I'll share a song on this week's "Sunday Supper." We'll also get to hear Allison and Shelby duet on "Ol' 55" as part of the Tom Waits tribute album, Come On Up to the House: Women Sing Waits.

For fans of fine female vocals, we'll have new releases by Katie Dahl and Dori Freeman, along with a brand new collaboration by Guy Davis and a pair of women, and a set of folky Tom Petty covers in honor of his FUV Essentials  day on Monday.

Follow the "Sunday Supper" into the wild, blue musical yonder from 5-6 p.m. EDT, at 90.7FM/wfuv.org and as well as the far reaches of the WFUV Weekend Archives (easily accessible through Alexa).
