On Your Radar - December 16, 2019

This edition of On Your Radar is on Monday, December 16. Let's say it's to honor Beethoven's birthday.

Youth in a Roman Field wants to help you break the rules. The bastardized string-quartet-meets-jazz-combo-meets-folk-band led by singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Claire Wellin incorporates sounds of"Appalachia, cayenne pepper, & ghosts." The band includes collaborators Tiffany Topol, Scott Stangland, Cassidy Stirtz, and Jamie Mohamdein, and creates an original, progressive sound with sweeping, powerful vocals at the forefront. Based in Queens, the band released their second full-length record, "Storm Conductor," in April 2018 and will release their first music video January 2020. http://www.youthinaromanfield.com/

Marion Halliday is proud purveyor of her own special blend of bluegrass and bourbon-infused, original, woman-powered Americana. A native Kentuckian now living in Philly, her debut solo album, "Rings Around Saturn," landed at #3 on the folk radio charts at its launch in Summer of 2019 and has been described as "beautifully sung and beautifully captured...a delicate and thoughtful piece that showcases a tremendous, characterful vocal." (Chris Porter "Stereo Stickman") Marion is honored to be joined in her set by friends (and stellar singer-songwriters in their own right) Meghan Cary and Irene Lambrou - more about Marion's music is at https://marionhalliday.com/

"No Depression" calls John John Brown"s debut album "The Road", "a supple and suggestive blend of astute Americana accompanied by a quiet, reflective glow", while "Elmore Magazine" dubbed him "one of the more promising young names in folk music today." His sophomore album is in production, and it's heavily influenced by John Prine. Out on the road, John John played the 50th Anniversary of Woodstock at Bethel Woods. He has also been chosen as a Kerrville Folk Finalist and an Emerging Artist The Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. http://www.johnjohnbrown.com/
