VIDEO PREMIERE: Adam Lytle "At Your Command"

Adam Lytle is a Cincinnati-born, Brooklyn-based artist who writes songs that explore the darker regions of the heart. At the turn of the decade, he embarked on an intense period of study seeking perspective on the internal and external worlds that were rapidly spinning out of control.“I wanted to write in a way that spoke to the feelings of anxiety and disillusionment that many in my community are feeling.” Lytle says. “This is anti-escapism. It meets the issues head-on.”

In the early days of 2023, after a year of writing and refining the songs in clubs around New York City. Lytle entered his Brooklyn studio and began recording the album, This Is the Fire. Working alone and mostly at night, he moved quickly, seeking to capture the detail and intimacy of each performance before sunrise. "At Your Command" is the second single off the album, a song with a distinct Leonard Cohen-esque quality. The video was shot upstate, with a 45-minute window to execute the choreography before the sun went down."We wanted my character to be at his physical limit," Lytle says. "What you're seeing is the last take and a real struggle."

The New Folk Initiative is honored to present this exclusive video premiere.
